Waun earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He worked with the Carolina College Advising Corps, serving as a college advisor in Warren County high schools. He has also served as an advisor for Student Government Association and Students Against Violence Everywhere. He later returned to University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and obtained his Master of Education in School Counseling. He served as a school counselor at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School and SAP Coordinator at Vernon Malone College and Career Academy. To know Waun is to recognize that he is an avid educator who enjoys learning, using technology to expand learning and bridging connections for students between content and the 21st century global society. Waun currently serves as part of the Mountain Lion administrative team during his principal residency at Moore Square Gifted and Talented AIG Basics Magnet Middle School. WAUN IS A FELLOW IN THE WAKE PRINCIPAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
The Wake Principal Leadership Program (WPLP) is a principal preparation program designed to train future leaders to serve in the Wake County Public School System. WPLP was modeled after the award winning NC State program, the Northeast Leadership Academy (NELA). NELA earned the honor of being named an Exemplary Educational Leadership Program by the University Council for Educational Administration. A grant from the state of NC through the North Carolina Alliance for School Leadership Development (NCASLD) funds WPLP, including full scholarships for WPLP's Fellows.
