My immediate impressions of Moore Square Magnet Middle School
Upon driving onto the campus, I noted signs that led parents and visitors where to park. Prior to entering the building, I saw a sign that welcomes parents to Moore Square Magnet Middle School. Once I stepped to the entrance and identified myself, the school front office personnel verified who I was and granted entrance into the building. I felt positive about the setting and the people present. I saw students actively engaged in learning and a student immediately greeted me at the door. One of the assistant principals, Ms. Marla Mondora greeted me in the lobby, upon my arrival. I did not see a sign that stated directions for visitors to go towards the main office of the building.
I noted evidence of student work throughout the walls as art visibly hanged on the school walls in the lobby area. Television screens were up that indicated the achievement of Moore Square Magnet Middle School as a school recognized as a Magnet Schools of America School of Excellence award recipient. I entered the front office where the receptionist, Ms. Ernestine Scott, enthusiastically greeted me and readily answered the phone when calls arrived. The front office area was immaculate with an adequate number of comfortable chairs for visitors to use. While the front office area does not have a parent resource room, it has a space designated in the office where parents may reference brochures and educational materials about the school and about Wake County Public School System's processes, including enrollment. For visitors interested in a tour, we have staff members who are available to provide a tour of the classrooms and learning spaces throughout the building. Throughout the building, cleanliness is seen in the halls, floors and in each classroom. The color scape of the building has a strong accents of bright yellow throughout the halls that liven up all spirits on the campus.
For families of new and returning students, Moore Square hosts events for parents and students such as the Mountain Lion Climb, a heralded event that welcomes new 6th grade students into the building and to walk through their class schedules and meet their teachers. Additionally, 7th and 8th grade students visit the school in the afternoon obtaining their schedules. There are staff members and PTSA officers who participate in the event to recruit parents to join school committees. Open houses occur as well as opportunities for parents to meet the teachers of their students later into the school year.
